In 2001 BakeMark UK (previously known as Arkady Craigmillar) was acquired by CSM, the worldwide market leader in developing, producing and distributing high-quality bakery ingredients and products. To reinforce our local and global identity BakeMark UK became CSM (United Kingdom) Ltd from January 1st 2010. The name change strengthens our identity as a member of the CSM worldwide group and builds a stronger bridge between our local market operations and the expertise that CSM has worldwide to create a better base for a bright and innovative future.

CSM United Kingdom has an enviable heritage that will be used as a building block for the future. Working closely with our customers and using up to date market data and category management skills allows us to offer successful and innovative products that fit within operational and commercial constraints.

As part of CSM, the world's largest bakery ingredients supplier and a global business of over €3bn we are able to draw on the products and expertise of sister companies operating across Europe and North America. And it's not just our customers that benefit from the international links and investment which comes from CSM but our employees as well: we believe in developing flexible and customer driven employees who are challenged to actively contribute to the continuing success of CSM United Kingdom.

Training

  • CSM United Kingdom has set up a working team to improve training and education of employees as part of our Continuous Improvement process known as TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
  • In 2003 CSM United Kingdom instigated a 'Train the trainers' initiative to encourage ownership of personal development particularly within the factories.
  • CSM United Kingdom employees who wish to take an NVQ in food & drink manufacturing operations. In addition there are several employees trained to assessor level.
  • In 2003 CSM United Kingdom ran a successful company wide training scheme to encourage 'dignity in the workplace'.
  • In addition CSM United Kingdom invest on average £800 per employee on training schemes.
  • Each employee has regular comprehensive appraisals at which training needs are identified, reviewed and opportunities discussed.

Employees

  • CSM United Kingdom consider health and welfare in the workplace to be important for its staff and have on site an occupational nurse, physician and physiotherapist/ ergonomist.
  • The company actively supports employee well being through counselling, smoking cessation initiatives, the healthy eating "five a day" campaign and the local 'fit for business' week.
  • Good communication is considered important by CSM United Kingdom and is supported through monthly team briefs to all employees, employee consultative forums and union partnerships.

Environment

  • CSM United Kingdom has entered into an agreement with the Food and Drink Federation whereby an 80% discount on the Climate Change Levy tax is granted in return for achieving its targeted energy efficiency improvements.
  • CSM United Kingdom has developed Environmental and Energy Policies in order to minimise the impact of waste on the environment, improve energy efficiency and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
